The Louisville Youth Group
| LYG was formed in 1990 by the efforts of adults and students from P-FLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), the Jefferson County Health Department, and the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender
(GLBT) and straight ally community at large. Individuals from Louisville and Southern Indiana joined together to establish a grassroots organization that would provide a safe place where GLBT young people could gather to meet and gain higher self-esteem through positive
socialization. |

Seventeen years later, LYG has provided direct support for over 1,000 youth and has trained more than 90 adult volunteers who act as mentors and role models to the youth. LYG drafted and approved official bylaws, policies, and procedures for the organization in 1991. The group incorporated in the fall of 1991 and received its 501(c)(3) status in 2000 .
